WALL DECORATING FOR CHILDREN
By decorating the walls of your child's room, you will
help to encourage the child to keep a tidy room. Wall hangings can be
interesting objects or useful items.
You must select the decorations according to your child's
age and interest. You could drape a wall with a fishing net and enclose
beach souvenirs, hang a large paper kite on the wall and add felt flowers and
make butterflies to complete the picture, or make wall
"pockets". The "Crafts for Kids" complete class
includes wall pockets, and the one pictured here can be a lot of fun!
SNAKE WALL POCKET

A snake of pockets can be made from
brightly printed pieces of scrap fabric, and can be made any length you
choose. Make the backing from a solid color and attach the pockets by
topstitching. Embroider a smile on the snake's face and give it button
eyes. Finally, attach plastic rings along the top and hang it above your
child's crib, or on an empty wall low enough so the child can "fill"
the pockets. Another idea for decorating the "pockets" is to
make the pockets from the white, tan or beige fabric, such as cotton duck, then
let the child draw his own pictures on each pocket with fabric crayons.
The time spent with the child while he/she is being artistic is time that the
child will never forget, and he/she will be so proud of the snake he
"made by himself" that he'll be showing it off to all his friends
(who, by the way, will start asking their mothers if they can have one too!!!)
This FREE project is an excerpt from
"Crafts for Kids" which gives you
ideas and instructions for projects for small children from ages 2 to 5 -- and of course, the
difficulty of the projects will be determined by how far advanced your child is.
Some children, at age three are doing things that other children are not doing
until nearly 4 years old.
